Endoscopy in Jalandhar — HD Diagnostic & Therapeutic
One session that both finds the problem and treats it. 20,000+ endoscopies performed, all under light sedation.
Symptoms That Call for an Endoscopy
Dr. Ankit recommends endoscopy when symptoms point to upper GI disease, or when a definite diagnosis is needed before starting treatment.
Persistent heartburn or GERD
To detect oesophageal damage, Barrett’s oesophagus or a hiatal hernia behind chronic reflux.
Upper abdominal pain or ulcers
To identify stomach and duodenal ulcers and test for H. pylori — which is permanently curable with a 14-day course.
Difficulty swallowing
To rule out strictures, oesophageal rings or tumours causing progressive trouble with solid food.
Vomiting blood or black stools
Emergency endoscopy locates the bleeding source and stops it in the same procedure. More on GI bleeding.
Unexplained weight loss or anaemia
To screen for gastric cancer, malabsorption or chronic occult bleeding.
Symptoms not responding to treatment
When months of antacids have not worked, the scope replaces guesswork with a diagnosis.
What Happens on the Day
Start to finish, an endoscopy visit takes about an hour and a half, most of which is waiting.
Preparation
- Fast 6 to 8 hours — no food or water
- Blood thinners paused if Dr. Ankit has advised it
- Bring previous reports and a list of your medication
- Arrange someone to take you home, since you will be sedated
The procedure
- Consent taken, IV line placed, throat spray applied
- Light conscious sedation — you drift off
- HD endoscope passed through the mouth, 10 to 20 minutes
- Biopsy, bleeding control or dilation done in the same sitting
Recovery and results
- 30 to 45 minutes of monitored observation
- Findings explained the same day, before you leave
- Soft food for a few hours; normal diet by evening

What Can Be Treated While You Are Under
The value of endoscopy is that it does not only look. Six things Dr. Ankit routinely does in the same sitting.
Tissue biopsy
Samples taken from any suspicious area and sent for pathology, without a second visit.
Bleeding control
Argon plasma coagulation, haemoclips or adrenaline injection to stop an actively bleeding ulcer.
Stricture dilation
A narrowed oesophagus stretched open, restoring normal swallowing.
Rapid urease test
H. pylori confirmed on the spot from a biopsy sample, so treatment can start immediately.
PEG tube placement
Feeding tube placed endoscopically for patients who cannot swallow safely.
Variceal banding
Bands applied to bleeding oesophageal varices. More on banding.
Sedation means you will need someone with you
Endoscopy under conscious sedation is very safe, and the commonest after-effect is a mildly sore throat for a day. You must not drive for 24 hours afterwards, so bring someone who can take you home. Tell Dr. Ankit in advance about blood thinners, diabetes medication and any previous reaction to anaesthesia.
Endoscopy Is Done at Innocent Hearts Hospital
The procedure needs sterile facilities, monitored sedation and ICU backup, so it is done at the hospital rather than the clinic.

An endoscope sees the gut, not the liver
It is worth being clear about scope: upper endoscopy examines the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum. It tells you nothing about your liver, which needs a separate test — FibroScan, five minutes, no needle. Many patients booked for endoscopy over reflux turn out to have fatty liver as well, which is the side of the practice that led Dr. Ankit to formulate Hepatolean Advance Liver Pro+. Ask for both assessments at your OPD visit if the symptoms warrant it.
