Liver Specialist in Jalandhar — Fatty Liver, Hepatitis & Cirrhosis

FibroScan on the same day as your consultation, and a treatment plan that starts from your actual numbers rather than a generic ultrasound comment.

Quick answer

Early liver damage usually has no symptoms — raised ALT/AST on a routine blood test is often the first clue. Grade 1 and Grade 2 fatty liver are fully reversible; losing 5 to 10% of body weight measurably reduces liver fat. FibroScan reads stiffness and fat in five minutes, with no needle and no biopsy.

Liver Diseases Managed in Jalandhar

Four conditions make up most of the liver work here. Three of the four are substantially reversible if they are caught before scarring sets in.

Fatty liver NAFLD NASH treatment in Jalandhar

Fatty Liver (NAFLD / NASH)

The commonest liver disease in India, and the most reversible
  • Driven by obesity, diabetes and insulin resistance
  • Grade 1 and 2 fully reversible with weight loss
  • NASH adds inflammation and needs medical treatment
  • Progresses silently to fibrosis if ignored
Hepatitis B and C treatment in Jalandhar

Hepatitis B & C

Viral, treatable, and curable in the case of Hepatitis C
  • Hepatitis C cure rate above 95% with modern DAA drugs
  • 8 to 12 weeks of oral tablets, minimal side effects
  • Hepatitis B controlled with long-term antiviral therapy
  • Early treatment removes the cirrhosis and cancer risk
Liver cirrhosis treatment in Jalandhar

Liver Cirrhosis

Permanent scarring — the goal shifts to stopping progression
  • F4 scarring cannot be reversed
  • Treating the cause halts further damage
  • Variceal screening prevents catastrophic bleeding
  • Cancer surveillance becomes part of routine care
Alcoholic liver disease treatment in Jalandhar

Alcoholic Liver Disease

Punjab carries one of the highest rates in India

FibroScan Stiffness — What Your Number Means

The LSM number on a FibroScan report is the single most useful figure in liver care. Here is what each band actually means for you.

LSM Score Fibrosis Stage Meaning What happens next
Under 6 kPaF0 – F1No or minimal fibrosisLifestyle changes, annual monitoring
6 – 9 kPaF2Significant fibrosisMedical treatment plus six-monthly FibroScan
9 – 12 kPaF3Advanced fibrosisAggressive treatment and close monitoring
Over 12 kPaF4Cirrhosis confirmedCirrhosis management and variceal screening

Fatty liver grade is a separate reading. Grade 1 is 5 to 33% fat (CAP 238–259 dB/m) and is fully reversible; Grade 2 is 34 to 66% (CAP 260–290) and mostly reversible; Grade 3 is over 67% (CAP above 290) and needs intensive management with monitoring for NASH progression.

Treatment Protocol

How Liver Disease Is Managed Here

Diagnosis first, cause second, then treatment aimed at the cause rather than the enzyme number.

1

Complete diagnosis

Liver function tests, viral markers, autoimmune and metabolic screen, ultrasound, and FibroScan for stiffness and fat quantification.

Same-day FibroScan
2

Treat the cause

DAA therapy for Hepatitis C, antivirals for Hepatitis B, metabolic management for NAFLD, and complete alcohol cessation support where relevant.

Cause-specific
3

Screen for varices

Cirrhosis patients are endoscoped for oesophageal varices, and banded where needed, before a bleed rather than after one.

4

Diet and weight

A 5 to 7% weight loss measurably reduces liver fat. Guidance is built around Punjabi meals rather than a printout you will not follow.

Measurable target
5

Monitor and survey

Repeat FibroScan tracks whether the plan is working, and cirrhosis patients enter routine liver cancer surveillance.

Why Dr. Ankit Anand

Hepatology, Not Just Gastroenterology

Liver work is a distinct discipline inside GI, and it depends on equipment most clinics in the Doaba region do not have.

AIG hepatology trainingFellowship at Asia’s highest-volume GI and hepatology institute, where liver is a specialty in its own right.
Variceal banding availableCirrhosis patients can be screened and banded locally, at Innocent Hearts Hospital, with 24/7 Gastro ICU behind it.
Non-surgical firstThe order is diagnosis, cause, medical treatment. Referral onward happens when it is genuinely needed, not by default.

Diet is most of the treatment

Reversing fatty liver runs on what you eat between appointments

Grade 1 and Grade 2 fatty liver reverse on weight loss, not on tablets — which puts nearly all the weight of the treatment on diet. Patients kept asking for a protein that would not work against the liver being treated, and most of what was on the shelf was loaded with sugar. So Dr. Ankit formulated Hepatolean Advance Liver Pro+: sugar-free, built on whey protein with choline, myo-inositol, L-carnitine, magnesium and vitamin E, made in an ISO 9001 and GMP-certified, FSSAI-registered facility. Discuss it at your consultation like any other part of the plan.

Patient FAQs

Liver Disease — Frequently Asked Questions

What are the early signs of liver damage?
Often none — which is why it is called a silent disease. Warning signs include persistent fatigue, loss of appetite, mild discomfort under the right ribs, dark urine and pale stools. Raised ALT/AST on a blood test is frequently the first real clue. Jaundice is a later sign, not an early one.
Is fatty liver dangerous? Can it be reversed?
Grade 1 and Grade 2 are fully reversible with lifestyle change — even 5 to 10% weight loss significantly reduces liver fat. Grade 3 and NASH need medical treatment. Left alone, fatty liver can progress to fibrosis, then cirrhosis, then liver cancer over years. Patients with obesity or diabetes are at highest risk and should be screened.
Why is FibroScan better than a liver biopsy?
FibroScan measures liver stiffness and fat in five minutes, painlessly. A biopsy needs a needle, a hospital stay, carries a bleeding risk and takes days to recover from. FibroScan replaces biopsy for the large majority of patients — faster, safer, equally accurate, results the same day, with only two hours of fasting beforehand. More on FibroScan.
Is Hepatitis C completely curable?
Yes. Modern direct-acting antivirals cure over 95% of patients, including those with advanced liver disease. Treatment is typically 8 to 12 weeks of oral tablets with minimal side effects, and it eliminates the long-term cirrhosis and liver cancer risk from HCV.
Can cirrhosis be reversed?
Established cirrhosis — F4 scarring — cannot be reversed. But treating the cause, whether that is stopping alcohol, treating Hepatitis B or C, or losing weight, halts progression and prevents complications such as variceal bleeding, ascites and liver failure. F2 and F3 fibrosis are still partially reversible, which is why early FibroScan matters.
When should I see a liver specialist?
If you have jaundice, chronic fatigue, abnormal liver enzymes, known Hepatitis B or C, a history of heavy alcohol use, fatty liver reported on ultrasound, obesity or Type 2 diabetes, or a family history of liver disease. Do not wait for symptoms — by the time they appear, a lot has usually already happened.
How do I prepare for a FibroScan?
Two hours of fasting is all that is required. No sedation, no needle, no recovery time. It is done at GastroNova Clinic on the same day as your OPD consultation.
